What to do about re-hired retirees

As January 1, 2014 quickly approaches, there are many aspects of healthcare reform to consider. One of the major concerns facing employers today, especially governmental employers, is the issue of re-hired retirees and its impact on the status of a retiree-only plan.

We have heard many voices in the marketplace with a variety of opinions on this issue. As a result, we are working diligently to ensure that we provide sound and accurate advice. Compliance with the new ACA mandates is our top priority.

We will be announcing our official position about re-hired retirees and HRAs very shortly.

Please note: Compliance with the new rules are due at the beginning of the plan year beginning on or after January 1, 2014. Thus, many of you have until July before your new plan year begins and the new rules take effect. That said, we still consider this matter as urgent in nature.
