The Lone Traveler Tells All…..

The Lone Traveler winners share their secrets ….

Walk in the Park – Craig Brendelson, won with 71,338 steps

How do you get your steps in?

I try to go for a 2-4 mile run/walk in the morning or evening depending on the day.  Daily walking and parking in a far spot from the door help too!

What is your favorite way to get your steps in?

Instead of sitting and watching TV, I will walk in place (similar to the Flash Fitness routine).  This is a great way to pile on steps!

Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting to walk for fitness?

The first 10-15 minutes of being active are the hardest part, try to push past that point and it gets easier!  Stay motivated & take advantage of Flash Fitness days!

Hit Your Stride – Anthony Allen, won with 174,859 steps

How do you get your steps in?

I do a short walk in the morning, long walk at lunchtime and then walk 3 times a week for an hour while the kids are at swim practice.  On the weekends my wife and I do a long walk around downtown Hartford.

What is your favorite way to get your steps in?

While listening to music and playing a game on my phone.

Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting to walk for fitness?

Wear good shoes, stretch and find a route you enjoy where you can walk a little further each day.

Movers and Shakers – Karen Volbrecht, won with 134,211 steps

How do you get your steps in?

I try to do a power walk 3 times a day (can’t always)……..before work, lunch & after work for 3,000 to 5,000 steps each. Then normal walking adds to that.

What is your favorite way to get your steps in?

Nature walks. I love to do 5 – 10 mile hikes on weekends through the beautiful WI state & county parks. Even winter walks in the snow are beautiful.

Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting to walk for fitness?

Start off with small goals.  Say start daily with 2,000 steps and build it weekly by a 1000+ steps daily from there. Before you know it you are getting 10,000 – 15,000 steps a day

Great advice winners! Thank you for sharing  your secrets!
