Q1 with the CCC and Greater Waukesha Literacy

“You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself

any direction you choose.

Oh, the Places You’ll Go! By Dr. Seuss

The CCC is thrilled to welcome you to 2019 and our Q1 giving campaign! This quarter we will be supporting Greater Waukesha Literacy, a small non-profit whose mission is to, “provide confidential, one-on-one tutoring and other services to individuals who need help with reading, writing, spelling, speaking, math, and English language learning” (https://www.waukeshaliteracy.org/)

To support this local organization, we will be hosting a bake sale as well as a book drive. Please see below for further details on each event.

Valentine’s Day Bake Sale

On Thursday, February 14th you can indulge your sweet tooth while supporting a great cause! We will be hosting a bake sale in the “celebration hallway”. All proceeds will benefit Greater Waukesha Literacy’s annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Read Aloud event, but more on that later.

We are looking for people to sign up to bring items. Please have all items packaged/sliced in individual servings, where applicable. A sign-up sheet will be outside the break room.

Dr. Seuss Book Drive

In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Greater Waukesha Literacy is holding its annual Dr. Seuss book drive. We will be collecting new Dr. Seuss books for the entire month of February here in the home office. There will be a box in the lobby for the donated books. Regional offices can purchase books online and have them shipped directly from the store!

Tip: some stores like Target have big sales on Dr. Seuss books in February to honor his March 1st birthday.

Where Are My Donations Going?

The books we collect will be distributed through Greater Waukesha Literacy’s “Reach Out and Read” program. This program distributes the books to low income families in Waukesha County throughout the year during a child’s pediatric 6 month wellness check with the ultimate goal of providing each child age-appropriate books before they reach school age. Our goal is 220 books. We can do it!!!!

All cash proceeds will go towards the site sponsorships for Greater Waukesha Literacy’s 16th annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Read Aloud event. Each year, Greater Waukesha Literacy works with community volunteers to read Dr. Seuss classic children’s stories to more than 1,200 children at elementary schools, day care centers and service providers throughout Waukesha County. Currently, there are five sites in our area that do not have sponsorships. Our goal is raise enough money to sponsor all five sites at $100 each. Our aim is to raise $250 from employee donations.

*If you are interested in volunteering with Greater Waukesha Literacy for the Dr. Seuss Read Aloud event or tutoring, see check out the organization’s website here.
