A New Year and New Giving Opportunities with the Community Connection Committee

Giving Opportunities

Welcome to 2017 with the Community Connection Committee (CCC)! We look forward to working with all NIS employees this year on new giving opportunities to raise money and items for some truly great causes.

Quarter I is well underway and the CCC has selected South Milwaukee Human Concern as our first quarter charity. South Milwaukee is a municipality whose school district we serve and is located just south of Milwaukee in southeastern Wisconsin. South Milwaukee Human Concern is a non-profit organization whose mission is to deliver “critical help and hope to needs-based residents through emergency food, clothing and other essential services”. To contribute to this invaluable cause, we will be holding the following events:

Need Based Drive

The drive will be from January 23rd – February 17th. We will have separate boxes for food and other items. Monetary donations will also be accepted. Below are some suggested items to donate. See the SMHC website for additional details on items.

  • Food*: Non-perishable, non-expired food donations can supplement our regular donations from Hunger Task Force and our food store partners.
  • Clothing: New or gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. Many adult and older teen clients need proper clothing for employment or employment interviews. Seasonal clothing, especially winter wear, are usually in high demand.
  • Household Items: Small appliances (in good working order), cookware, blankets, lamps and related items are needed by many clients.
  • Smaller furniture pieces: New or gently used furnishings that can help clients create a home. Typically needed are end tables, apartment-size dining tables, small dressers and chairs.

Note: SMHC Does Not Accept . . . Electronic items, including televisions, computers, printers, stereo equipment, DVD players and related are not accepted. In addition, mattresses, cribs, box springs and bed frames are not accepted.

*Office Services will be celebrating National Pie Day January 23rd, please consider bringing non-perishable food items on that day to be donated to SMHC.

Valentine’s Day Bake Sale

A sweet treat for your sweetheart! We will be hosting a bake sale on February 14th from 8:00 – 2:30 in conference room A.  Please consider bringing in bake goods for individual sale on this day. We will have a signup sheet posted on the CCC board soon.

March Madness Luncheon

Kick off March Madness with a March Madness Luncheon! On March 16th we will be hosting a luncheon in the main conference room with hot dogs, nachos and other treats. Tickets will be $5 and will be on sale beginning March 1st.

See Casey, Craig, Amy and Dana for tickets.

Please see the South Milwaukee Human Concern website for more information on how you can become involved directly.

We thank you for your continued support in helping to make local communities better!
